Eric S. Brown
Eric Brown is a long term practicing New Urbanist Architect, having joined the Congress of New Urbanism (CNU) in 1996. Eric opened his own practice in 1998 to promote and create work following the principles of the Charter of New Urbanism and the practice of traditional architecture and urbanism.
Under Eric’s leadership, Brown Design Studio has won national level awards for design work as well as local awards. Eric has lectured and presented to national level organizations and the firm’s work has been published in several national and local level publications. Eric is also a member of many national level organizations that promote peacemaking and traditional design.
Eric’s architectural practice has followed his ideals and continues to grow as an entity. Brown Design focuses on assisting to create vibrant urban places and the architecture that shapes those places that they are in. The firm’s practice is national with a range of design work form planning to town center work to small scale historic infill residential.
Personally, Eric enjoys being a father, travel, painting, writing, running, racing, and of course exploring urban places. He lives in the historic core of the beautiful city of Savannah.
Rahul Malla
Rahul Malla is our architectural draftsman from Kathmandu, Nepal with a professional architecture degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Rahul works closely with Eric every day by helping with design process, organizing and assembling construction documents and executing renderings.
Rahul’s intentions as a designer are to be inclusive and make connections between the environment and their inhabitants. Doing this aids to the sustainability of the culture and place in the community, by combining regional architecture with emerging design, technology and sustainability techniques. This approach has lead Rahul to achieve the AIA Savannah Chapter Award for his thesis project of redesigning a regional airport in the Himalayas.
Rahul is seeking to become a registered architect in the near future. Outside of the office, he enjoys playing blues and jazz on the guitar, and is also interested furniture design.
Hayley Spaulding
A Connecticut native, Hayley moved to Savannah, Georgia to receive her B.F.A in Interior Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. After graduation, she worked as a stylist in place-making for local events and publications throughout the area, including the Savannah Music Festival, Savannah Stopover Festival, and Coastal Living. With a multidisciplinary background in design and constant desire to learn, Hayley believes in the pursuit of connecting people positively with the built environment, and enhancing user experience through cross-discipline approaches. Her eye for detail equips her to develop and manage material across Brown Design’s social and professional platforms, including the curation of visual identity through graphic communication and marketing collateral. In addition to online presence, Hayley handles most of the office’s physical communications, including editorial work, public relations, and outreach. Hayley is passionate about travel, discovering new places (and old) - sometimes within her own backyard of Savannah, and refining her developing passion for photography.
