We were delighted to welcome architects, design professionals, urban planners, developers, and advocates for New Urban principles from around the world to our city of Savannah this week for CNU26!
Our principal architect of Brown Design Studio, Eric Brown, was a featured speaker at multiple sessions, including housing and building types in Savannah.
Eric's tour, Missing Middle Housing: Found!, was an in-depth look at the multitude of housing types found in Savannah, more than any other city in the country, and the way these types co-exist within the frame of the historic city. The walking tour allowed participants to see and feel the characteristics that matter when designing appropriate housing, including use of proportion, local materials, and frontages.
Due to a high demand and limited slots for the 'Missing Middle' tour, we were regretfully unable to accommodate everyone that was interested. In our attempt to remedy this, we've attached the entire 'Missing Middle' program here. We hope you enjoy viewing and learning about the multiple housing types Savannah has to offer, and please feel free to forward any specific questions to eric@brownds.com.
