In Arlington County, Virginia, Affordable Housing Month is celebrated during the month of October with events, community education, and an out-reach focused primarily on the “Missing Middle” theme.
With Arlington County being a leader in creating “great spaces,” it has brought a valuable housing mix to the community. While there is a wide range of Missing Middle housing types, it helps meet the growing requests for walkable urban living, and a community that is sustainable, diverse and more.
The scale of these houses is compatible with the height and bulk with single family houses in neighborhoods. The smaller unit sizes and modest amenities have the potential to naturally maintain low prices and rent which acts as a more feasible housing option for middle class income buyers and renters. Missing Middle Housing has the ability to be built incrementally on a small and/or modest lot with the consolidation of a large area of land.
Brown Design is happy to announce our submissions for Affordable Housing Month with The Alliance for Housing Solutions to illustrate a better understanding to the members of the Arlington community.
